Cookie Policy
Document Version: 1.0 | Last Updated: February 28, 2025 | Applies To: Pruneify
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored by your browser when you visit a website. They help the site remember your preferences or keep you logged in. Similar technologies include localStorage and IndexedDB, which store data in your browser without using cookies. Pruneify uses localStorage and IndexedDB for essential functionality; we do not set analytics or marketing cookies.
2. Storage Audit Table
Pruneify uses the following browser storage:
| Name | Provider | Category | Purpose | Duration | Data Sent To |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| pruneify-settings | Pruneify | Strictly Necessary / Functional | User preferences (sensitivity, toggles, presets) | Until cleared | None (local only) |
| pruneify-session | Pruneify | Strictly Necessary / Functional | Session restore (inputs, active tab) | Until cleared | None (local only) |
| pruneify-history (IndexedDB) | Pruneify | Strictly Necessary / Functional | Analysis history (up to 50 entries) | Until cleared | None (local only) |
| Next.js prerender / dev cookies | Next.js / host | Strictly Necessary | Preview bypass, development | Session or as set | None (local only) |
3. Legal Basis for Each Category
- Strictly Necessary / Functional: These storage mechanisms are essential for the service to function (e.g., remembering preferences, restoring your session). Under the ePrivacy Directive and GDPR, such storage does not require prior consent; it is based on legitimate interest.
- Analytics / Marketing: We do not use analytics or marketing cookies. No consent is requested for these categories because we do not use them.
4. How to Manage Cookies & Storage
You can clear Pruneify's data (and any cookies) at any time:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Clear browsing data → Cookies and other site data, Cached images and files. Or: Developer Tools (F12) → Application → Storage → Clear site data.
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Clear Data. Or: Developer Tools (F12) → Storage → Clear All.
- Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data → Remove All, or remove the site individually.
- Edge: Settings → Privacy, search, and services → Choose what to clear → Cookies and other site data. Or: Developer Tools (F12) → Application → Storage → Clear site data.
General opt-out tools: optout.aboutads.info, youronlinechoices.eu. These apply to advertising cookies; Pruneify does not use such cookies.
5. Third-Party Cookies
Pruneify does not set third-party cookies. We do not embed advertising, analytics, or social widgets that would set cookies from other domains. Google Fonts are loaded via next/font; requests go to Google, but we do not set cookies for that. Any cookies from the hosting platform (e.g., Vercel) would be first-party and essential for operation.
6. Cookie Consent Banner
We do not use a cookie consent banner because all storage we use is strictly necessary for the service. Under the ePrivacy Directive and CJEU Planet49 ruling, consent is required for non-essential cookies (e.g., analytics, marketing). Our storage falls under the "strictly necessary" exception. If we add analytics or marketing cookies in the future, we will implement a consent mechanism that meets the "freely given, specific, informed, unambiguous" standard.
7. Do Not Track (DNT)
Pruneify does not use tracking that would be affected by Do Not Track signals. We do not collect or use data for cross-site tracking. Our storage is local and functional only.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy when our use of cookies or storage changes. The "Last Updated" date will be revised. Material changes (e.g., adding analytics cookies) would trigger a re-consent process if required by law.
